Overview

Unit Operations of Chemical Engineering, 7th edition continues its lengthy, successful tradition of being one of McGraw-Hill's oldest texts in the Chemical Engineering Series. Since 1956 this text has been the most comprehensive of the introductory, undergraduate, Chemical Engineering titles available. Separate chapters are devoted to each of the principal unit operations, grouped into four sections: fluid mechanics, heat transfer, mass transfer and equilibrium stages, and operations involving particulate solids.
Now in its seventh edition, the text still contains its balanced treatment of theory and engineering practice, with many practical illustrative examples included. Almost 30% of the problems have been revised or are new, some of which cover modern topics such as food processing and biotechnology. Other unique topics of this text include diafiltration, adsorption and membrane operations.

Key Features

• Balanced treatment of theory and engineering practice, with many practical illustrative examples included
• New! Section on fluid viscosity in Chap. 3 expanded to include simple theories for gases and liquids
• Mass-transfer section contains chapters on adsorption and membrane operations.
• Contains up-to-date correlations for heat transfer, mass transfer, and equipment design
• New! Revised discussion of filter cake washing
• New! Chapter on Adsorption and Fixed-Bed Separations deals with the use of powdered carbon to treat aqueous               waste in tanks, and expanded-bed adsorption that can be used for purification of fermentation broths
• New! Distillation chapters contain revised sections on flash distillation, flooding limits, and plate efficiency
• New! Correlations for drying rates and a treatment of dryer thermal efficiency added
